Tourist destinations: Do they leave you out in the cold? Then visit Canada’s Capital Region. Regardless of the season, it’s the place to be!

The National Capital Commission (NCC) and its many partners have been working for more than three decades on your behalf to create a Capital for ALL Canadians.

Today, the Capital Region’s national museums are wheelchair accessible, as are the parliament buildings, the Governor General’s residence, the National Arts Centre, most shopping centres and many cinemas.

There’s much, much more. NCC parks, guided tours, pathways and most of our recreational areas, trails, and activities are accessible to people with mobility impairments. Gatineau park is a vast nature reserve just minutes from the Capital’s doorstep. Here you’ll find accessible beaches, swimming piers, fishing docks, picnic tables, campgrounds and washrooms. You can also enjoy the Sarsparilla Nature Trail in the Greenbelt.

Our commitment continues... we design sites for special events – like Canada Day, Cultures Canada and Winterlude – to ensure that people with disabilities can participate. Once again we have a Special Needs Welcoming Service – trained attendants and adaptive equipment available for Winterlude, February 5 to 14, 1993. For people with visual impairments, we have tactile maps of the Capital’s core, audio guides and large print publications.
