Summer is approaching and once again the University of Saskatchewan, College of Kinesiology, is gearing up to partner with Celebrate Abilities for their Kids in Motion Summer Family Camp, taking place at the University of Saskatchewan from August 8 to 11.
Kids in Motion, a year-round activity program for children with mobility-related disabilities, will be hosting its second Summer Family Camp. Families, educators and professionals are invited to attend. The program looks forward to expanding on the activities from 1999 with some introduction to new sporting activities.
Some of the activities being considered for the upcoming camp are horseback riding, wheelchair basketball, go-carts, track, and a special appearance by members of the Saskatoon Junior Hockey League.
The program’s goal is to give children who have a mobility-related disability the opportunity to learn how to participate in the same kinds of activities available to their able-bodied friends and family. By teaching them how to make small modifications so that they are able to participate, they are given ownership of their independence.
