New Resources for Parents

People who are parenting with a disability know that, thus far, information and resources in Canada that address this issue have been limited. Now, two new resources are available.

The Parenting with a Disability Network at the Centre for Independent Living in Toronto (CILT) Inc. was established to develop, or help families develop, unique solutions to parenting challenges. It offers peer support and networking, information sharing, seminars and workshops in the greater Toronto area. It publishes a regular bulletin and is in the process of creating a Parenting Resource Directory. For more information, contact Nicole Rioux at CILT, (416) 599-2458 (TTY: 599-5077).

"Disabled Parenting Today" is a national, bimonthly newsletter for parents with disabilities designed to share practical and useful ideas, insights and current research and product information. Editor Ben Sullivan has experienced firsthand the frustrating search for information "that would make it easier for me to be more actively involved in the raising of our child." A one-year subscription to "Disabled Parenting Today" costs $24. To subscribe, send payment to: Sullivan Publishing, P.O. Box 3827, Courtenay, B.C., V9W 7P2.
