Kina Diamond Sparkles Onstage

Kina Diamond describes herself as a pop/disco singer “determined to defy the laws of conventionality.” The Montreal, Quebec, native has a style all her own. She has aspired to be a singer-songwriter since the age of 14, when she began to write lyrics. As her interest in a musical career grew, she studied artistic career management and computer-assisted music.

Now, the young woman has several performances under her belt, including benefit concerts at home in Montreal, and discothèque shows in Cuba. Kina has muscular dystrophy and uses a power wheelchair onstage.

Kina sings in English, French and Spanish, often about love and sensuality, and sometimes about social issues such as the environment and animal rights. Her July performance in Verdun, Quebec, was accompanied by the dance troupe “Vibe.” For one of her latest shows, at an October 8 fundraiser in downtown Montreal to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Kina was backed by Normand Brathwaite and his musical group.

Fans are welcome to check out the official, bilingual Kina Diamond website, www.geocities.com/kina_diamond, where they can download samples of Kina’s music and view photos. For information about upcoming performances, e-mail kinadiamond@sprint.ca.
